Signs of Aging Are Slowed Down by Hearing Aids

Woman considering hearing aids as she looks at her image in a mirror.

As you’ve been getting older, you’ve most likely been looking for ways to conserve your youthfulness.

You’ve looked for it in with diet, exercise, and supplements. You’ve already spent too much on retaining your hair and keeping wrinkles in check. You even signed up for a Yoga class. It doesn’t matter what your age, you can stay happy and youthful.

But the good news is, there’s an affordable way to keep that youthful happy feeling which has scientific support. Yet, fewer than 16% of people who would benefit are taking advantage of it.

The “trick” is easy – they’re using their hearing aids to manage their hearing loss.

This trick might be the key to feeling happy and youthful as we age.

How Common is Hearing Loss?

The possibility of experiencing hearing loss goes up substantially by age 45. Even children as young as 12 are impacted.

A study showed that out of all individuals between 45 and 54, hearing loss is experienced by 11% of them. By age 80 that percentage goes up to 90%. Of those between the ages of 65 and 74, almost 25 percent cope with debilitating hearing loss and that number increases to 50% by age 80.

Also, men under 70 are two times as likely to have hearing loss than women in the same age group.

Contrary to common belief most cases of hearing loss occur because of exposure to loud noise not aging. Some people are exposed to more damaging sounds than others during the course of their lives.

Hearing loss isn’t an inevitability, but not treating your hearing loss has been shown by repeated studies, to impact your general health, happiness, and youthfulness.

Yet only 1 in 7 individuals who should be using hearing aids have them.

Your Hearing Aid is The Key to Happiness And Youthfulness

Using your hearing aid has been directly connected to the following outcomes:

  • Being 20% more likely to engage in social activities

One thing that makes life wonderful, you’ll concur, is being around other people. You feel younger and happier when you spend precious time with people you love doing the activities you enjoy.

People are more likely to stay socially active when they wear their hearing aid regularly..

  • Having a 30% less-likelihood of depression

Feelings which are related to depression-like loneliness and sadness, according to some studies, are not as likely to be reported when someone with hearing loss regularly wears their hearing aid.

They’re also less likely to feel as if people are mad at them or trying to avoid them. It’s not as common for them to engage in self isolation.

Increased happiness is the outcome of less depression.

  • Less likelihood of suffering from mental decline

If you have a mom, dad, or aunt with dementia, you know how frightening it is for the family and the person in mental decline. It takes longer for a person with cognitive decline to process things and they are continually forgetting what they said and did which makes them feel older.

As cognitive decline worsens, the people who are dealing with it are no longer capable of doing the things that make them feel happy and youthful.

If the straightforward act of using your hearing aid can decrease your risk of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, shouldn’t you be wearing it?

  • Falling danger reduced by 30%

The risk of falling and sustaining a serious injury becomes a real concern as we age. When we were younger, we were much more stable. A bad fall could cause a severe fracture that results in a hospital stay and a few weeks of rehab.

That’s not a place you want to be. It’s not fun to be in the hospital in pain.

You’re happier when you’re able to get around easily. You’re less likely to be startled because you’re more confident with your movements.

Hearing aids will make a hospital stay less likely and will let you spend more time with family and friends.

  • Having 30% fewer arguments and misunderstandings

How many disputes start because you believed you heard somebody say something unfavorable, but in fact, the person said something else? Or, maybe, a friend raises her voice so you can hear her more clearly, but you think she’s yelling at you.

Untreated hearing loss puts a huge strain on your relationships with family and friends. It can result in anger, resentment, sadness, and other unfavorable emotions. But you will have more positive interactions with friends and family if you are able to hear better which hearing aids will help you do. Whatever age you may be, this will help you remain happy and youthful.

Whatever you’ve lost, get it back

Have you been wearing your hearing aid? Some of the basic joys in life which you’ve been missing include:

  • Children’s laughter
  • Conversations with friends and family without needing them to speak louder
  • Music
  • Outings and social clubs
  • The sounds of nature at your local park

If you have hearing loss, you might still hear these things to some degree but they are probably not as pleasant.
